REPORT ON INTERNATIONAL DAY OF OLDER PERSONS

As part of INTERNATIONAL DAY OF OLDER PERSONS (1/10/2025), the Department of Medical Surgical Nursing at PKDCN organized an Awareness Programme centered around the theme "Older persons, Driving local and global action: Our Aspirations, Our Well-Being, Our Rights". The event was held on October 3rd, 2025, at the Polygarden Old Age Home in Lakkidi. The program commenced at 10:00 A.M. with a welcome speech delivered by Mrs. Lakshmi Devi, Assistant Professor of the Department of Medical Surgical Nursing. The inaugural address was given by Lt. Col. Dr. Regina PF, Head of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Nursing at PKDCN.

Health education sessions were conducted by Mrs. Annu Pinto, Assistant Professor of the Department of Medical Surgical Nursing, providing valuable information on health and well-being of older persons. The program also featured various entertainment activities led by faculty members, aimed at engaging the beneficiaries and creating a lively atmosphere.

Mr. Joji, the Patron of Polygarden, delivered a speech emphasizing the importance of community support and active participation in promoting the rights and well-being of older adults. The beneficiaries of the program numbered 135 individuals, who actively participated in the activities. The event concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Mrs. Binesha P B, Tutor at PKDCN, acknowledging the efforts of all involved in organizing the program and expressing gratitude to the attendees.

Overall, the program successfully highlighted the significance of respecting and supporting older persons, fostering awareness about their rights, and encouraging community-driven actions to improve their quality of life. The event served as a reminder of the collective responsibility to ensure the well-being and dignity of older adults in society.
