ONAM CELEBRATION 2024

On September 11th 2024, P K Das College of Nursing hosted a grand celebration to mark the festival of Onam, one of the most important and colorful festivals in Kerala. The event was organized by the student council, with the enthusiastic participation of both students and staff. The college premises were beautifully adorned with floral decorations (Pookalam), adding to the festive atmosphere. The day began with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony by our beloved chairman and management trustee Dr P Krishnadas and our correspondent & management representative Mrs. Sumitha Krishnadas followed by cultural performances that showcased the rich heritage of Kerala. The highlight of the celebration was the graceful Thiruvathirakali, a traditional dance performed by staffs in sync with melodious music, symbolizing the unity and cultural pride of Kerala. A variety of games and activities were also organized, including traditional Onam sports such as tug-of-war (Vadamvali) and Uriyadi (hitting a pot with a stick while blindfolded). These games were enjoyed by students and faculty alike, creating a sense of togetherness and team spirit.Shinkarimelam was another highlight of the programme. The celebration also featured a sumptuous Onam Sadhya, a traditional Kerala feast served on banana leaves. The meal included a wide variety of dishes such as avial, sambar, thoran, payasam, and more, providing everyone with a taste of authentic Kerala cuisine. The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony for the winners of various competitions, by the Prof Priya Mary Stella, Principal P K Das College of Nursing appreciating the efforts of the organizing committee and the enthusiasm of all participants. Followed by a vote of thanks delivered by the students. The Onam celebration at P K Das College of Nursing was a grand success, fostering a spirit of unity, joy, and cultural appreciation among students and staff.
