The Community Health Nursing Department of P.K. Das College of Nursing organized an educational field visit to the Milma Dairy Plant, Palakkad on 9th and 10th December 2025 for 90 students of 5th Semester B.Sc. Nursing.
The visit offered students practical exposure to large-scale milk processing and quality control systems. Established in 1925 as a milk chilling centre, the Palakkad dairy has now grown into a major processing unit with a capacity of over 14 lakh litres of milk per day. Students observed the production processes of milk and value-added products such as ghee, curd, and sambaram, along with an overview of packaging, storage, and distribution practices followed at the plant.
The visit provided valuable insights into food safety, hygiene, and dairy management practices, enriching the students’ understanding of community health and nutrition.
