The Child Health Nursing Department of P. K. Das College of Nursing, organized an awareness programme (Roleplay) on World Prematurity Day on 17th November 2025 at obstetrics and gynaecology ward of PKDIMS. The event was conducted as part of the Newborn Care Week observance, highlighting the need for improved care and support for preterm infants.
The theme of the programme, “Safe Care for Every Newborn and Every Child”, emphasized the importance of timely, evidence-based neonatal care practices to reduce complications associated with premature birth. The session also promoted the global message, “Give Preterm Babies a Strong Start for a Brighter Future.”
The programme commenced at 10.30 AM, featuring an introductory talk on the challenges faced by preterm newborns and the essential interventions required during the first weeks of life. Discussion points included neonatal resuscitation, thermal regulation, Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC), infection prevention, breastfeeding support, and early detection of complications.
Faculty from the Child Health Nursing Department encouraged students to advocate for newborn health within the community. The event underscored the critical role of nurses in reducing neonatal mortality rates and ensuring high-quality care for vulnerable newborns.
The programme concluded with a collective pledge to support and promote newborn health initiatives, commemorating World Prematurity Day with compassion and professional commitment.
